All you need to do is click on the links and you can get the information and addresses & contacts you need. Here's what we're doing now, and we're making real progress. With a little help, we believe we can get a resolution to impeach introduced before the 4th anniversary of the invasion March 19th, and --- we hope --- in time to prevent the Bush attack on Iran.

This is a crucial time for us. It's time to step up and show our commitment to help New Jersey become the first state to pass a resolution for impeachment that will hit the floor and push the United States Congress to impeach.

Right now, six states --- California, Illinois, Minnesota, New Mexico, Vermont and Washington --- have introduced resolutions to impeach Bush-Cheney. New Jersey will be the 7th state to introduce its resolution. Of all the states, New Jersey has the best chance to pass its resolution through the legislature and transmit our "petition to impeach" to the Congress, triggering Jefferson's Rule 603. This event will bring huge pressure to start impeachment proceedings. New Jersey offers a case in which both houses of its legislature, the General Assembly and the Senate, have Democratic majorities; Governor Corzine's also a Democrat, and while his signature is not necessary to transmit New Jersey's resolution to impeach, there's reason to believe he will be "favorably disposed" to the resolution, and that will help it all happen.

An Urgent Message

There's nothing recent more compelling and alarming than the article by Sy Hersh in 3rd of March 2007 edition of The New Yorker in which he reports a planning group that's ready to go with attacks on Iran within 24 hours of a signal from Bush. Bush must be stopped --- literally --- before he kills again. All patriots must move now to stop his madness. --- Click the sign to read it all! ---

On February 21st we received a message from Mike DeLoreto, Assemblyman Reed Gusciora's Chief-of-Staff. Mike indicated that while Assistant State Majority Leader Gusciora has the resolution for impeachment ready to go, his focus at the moment is on opposing the escalation of the war in Iraq. We know this is an urgent situation and we owe Assemblyman Reed and Mike DeLoreto a lot of gratitude for taking a stand on the issue. These are good people who are deeply disturbed by the crisis in our country, and they understand the political obstacles we need to surmount in order to reclaim justice and democracy in our land.

Good news! Reed Gusciora's bill, AR237, which Calls on Congress to stop escalating the war in Iraq unless the President first seeks Congressional approval, passed the legislature! In regard to impeachment now, Mike DeLoreto inquired what we know about the level of support that exists among other legislators in New Jersey, and which legislators we believe are receptive to a resolution to impeach.

This can really happen, but it requires more than one man presenting a resolution to the state legislature. There needs to be strong support in place before it is presented. That is where we come into the picture. The time has come to focus on lobbying our assembly members and state senators and educate them on the valid reasons for supporting impeachment and to make a concerted effort to secure their support. Hopefully, we will come across some willing to co-sponsor the resolution with Assemblyman Gusciora. We can't presume to know how our representatives will vote. I made that mistake once before and I will always regret it. Unless they already have a deeply held conviction on the matter, they may not be willing to rock the boat with this vote. If they start receiving letters, phone calls, and requests for meetings they will know people are behind it. The goal is to embolden them to gain the courage to make this historic vote to save our country.

One of the tactics Joanne O'Neill (South Jersey Progressive Impeach Group) presented early on at the formation of our group, and one that Hutch and I discussed, is to begin a systematic approach to connecting with our respective legislators. Find your legislator. It's very effective when people connect with others in their district. Have a point person phone the representative's office to get the name of the representative's legislative aide. Contact the aide and explain that Assistant State Majority Leader Reed Gusciora drafted a resolution calling for the impeachment of George W. Bush and Richard Cheney.

Tell Senators and Assemblypeople you will send information supporting the resolution. Go to ImpeachThem.com and click KEY DOCUMENTS to get all the materials you need to impress upon them that time is of the essence with the continued abuse of power, the 4th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq approaching, and the very real possibility Bush will attack Iran. Let them know that someone from the group will contact them again in one week to arrange a meeting with the representative --- then really do it! Remember you're not alone! Then click legislature leadership to turn your attention to the legislative leaders outside your district we must persuade to support the resolution. We must reach them all. You can have supporting impeachers go with you to any meeting you arrange with any Senator or Assemblyperson. Just ask for help and you get it.

Our issue demands a straightforward approach. We need to be assertive and we need move right now. When the vote comes down, let's all be at peace with the fact that we did everything we could to bring victory to our United States. There will be no regrets because we're going to get the resolution to impeach passed in our New Jersey legislature! Keep in mind all the time that you don't have to go into these meetings alone. There are many impeach campaigners eager to stand with you and accompany any of us to any of these meetings. Communication is key so be sure to report back on any actions and/or responses made. This, in turn, will be shared with Assemblyman Gusciora's staff and will surely provide them even more incentive to make the move for justice.

After getting the alert concerning the momentum that's building for our state impeach campaign, I have an idea for generating more letters to NJ legislators. If each of our 100+ members of North Jersey Impeach Group get five people to commit to sending letters, e-mails or making phone calls to all 60 legislators on the list, and commit to doing the same themselves, each senator and assembly person would receive 600 letters/e-mails/phone calls asking for support of the resolution to impeach Bush and Cheney.

Or another way is for each member to get 10 people --- the first 5 to do the first 30 names on the list and give the second five to do the last 30 names. People can do a combination of letters, e-mails and phone calls, with leader legislators receiving letters and the others getting e-mails and phone calls. This saves time and postage.

I estimate that the time for one person to personally address 60 letters and envelopes is about four hours max - after the initial letter template is written. This total time will be less if people do a combination of letters, e-mails and phone calls. Spread over one week, this is only 30 minutes per day maximum. And if people team up, the time goes by more pleasant and work's done faster.
